Try goggles. If you can see and aren't getting water in your eyes it will help ease the feeling of suffocating. Then practice in the shallow end (standing upright) just putting your head down and face in the water so your face is down but you can still comfortably see the other wall. Practice turning your head to the right (without bringing your chin up from your chest) and breathing in through your mouth when your mouth is out of water, and then exhaling through your nose when you get back into starting position.
