Why do mosquitoes bite certain people more than others. also why do some people gets big welts as others don't?

i react to mosquitoes very badly in that they cause huge welts that itch like absolute crazy. The same bit will keep itching for a few days but especially at night. my partner gets bitten but not half as much as i do and he doesn't have any reaction. Is there a reason for this?
